Safes.... What You Need to Know

There are many different types and sizes of safes available in the market today. There are also a wide variety of safes designed for specific purposes such as data and laptop safes. Safes can be divided into several main styles and categories:safe opening, fitting, repair

  • Small domestic or hotel safes
  • Cupboard safes
  • Underfloor safes
  • Wall safes
  • Supply and cut new and additional keys
  • Free standing safes
  • Fire safes
  • Data safes
  • Gun cabinets/safes

Safes are now rated under European standard EN1143. Within this standard safes fall into three common grades 0/1/and 2 categories. These grades give the safe an insurance rating for both cash and jewellery:

  • Grade 0  £6000 cash £60,000 Jewellery
  • Grade 1  £10,000 cash £100,000 Jewellery
  • Grade 2   £17,500 cash £175,000 jewellery

Higher grades do exist but these are used for specialist security applications. There are several mistakes commonly made when safes are purchased. Often the wrong type of safe is bought. The safe may be to small, it may be large enough at the moment but what about in a couple of years time ? The importance of the location of the safe is often forgotten, it's pointless anchoring a safe to a plasterboard wall for example.

Things to remember:IMAGE_00002

  • Seek expert advice
  • Buy the right type of safe
  • Why do you want it, to prevent theft ? to protect from fire ?
  • What do you want to keep in it ?
  • Have an adequate budget
  • Do you have a suitable position for the safe ?
  • What sort of locking method do you want, key, digital, combination etc... or a combination of different methods ?
  • Think ahead, will the safe still be adequate a few years down the line ?

If you have any questions or queries please don't hesitate to call, advice is free and priceless
